When it comes to looking and feeling younger, you’ve tried everything — from over-priced scrubs and masks to ridiculous remedies on Youtube.
Don’t let fine lines and wrinkles scare you this Halloween. Instead of sucking the youth out of children like the Sanderson sisters in Hocus Pocus, try these four simple anti-aging potions to bring your skin back to life.
Green Tea Powder and White Tea Mask
For centuries the Chinese have been using a variety of brewed teas to maintain a healthy lifestyle. While green tea has been linked to possible cancer prevention and age reversal, white tea is known for protecting the skin from harmful ultraviolet rays. When mixed together, the teas create an antibacterial, wrinkle-erasing mask .
DIY: Mix powdered green tea into brewed white tea and lemon to create a paste. Apply the paste directly to the face. Once the mask begins to tighten, rinse with warm water. For best results, apply the facial up to twice a week.
Citrus Fruits
We all know citrus fruits are a perfect way to up your daily dose of Vitamin C. But did you know the antioxidants in fruits like lemons, oranges and grapefruits can also help improve blood flow and prevent bad cholesterol. Aside from internal benefits, eating citrus fruits can help make your skin appear firmer and toned by temporarily shrinking your pores.
DIY: Remove the peel of a lemon, grapefruit or orange with a sharp knife. Allow the peels to dry overnight before using as a body or facial rub. Leave on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing.
Plain Yogurt and Tomato Juice Facial
Though this recipe may seem a little gross, the anti-aging benefits of both plain yogurt and tomato juice are well worth it. While tomatoes are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, the lactic acid in plain yogurt dissolves dead skin cells and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and lines. When combined, the yogurt and tomato juice will tighten your pores and give your skin an instant glow.
DIY: Combine plain yogurt and freshly squeezed tomato juice together to make a paste. Apply the mixture to the face and allow it to sit for 20 minutes.
Ginger and Honey
Both ginger and honey are staples in many at-home remedies. The antioxidant called Gingerol in Ginger helps protect against collagen breakdown while honey’s antibacterial properties reduce inflammation.
DIY: Mix shredded ginger in honey into boiling water to create a honey-ginger tea. For best results, drink the mixture twice a day.
