DIY skincare products are becoming the newest trend. Fortunately for our pockets, a lot of these products can be made with everyday food ingredients that offer natural, therapeutic and revitalizing benefits to your skin. Here are five common skincare products that are not only dermatologist-approved, but also probably already in your kitchen cabinet:
Coconut Oil – Coconut oil has recently become popular for being known as a superfood AND your ultimate skincare sanctuary. It is known for softening, brightening your face and clearing up any blemishes. Coconut Oil is great for repairing your skin because it contains Vitamin E, essential amino acids and saturated fats. To use coconut oil, you can add a few drops to your favorite moisturizer or use it to remove makeup. Keep in mind that moderation is key. Saturated fats can repair skin, but an excess of coconut oil can clog your pores.
Turmeric – Turmeric is a spice extracted from the curcuma longa plant that has been linked to various possible health benefits, such as helping skin irritation, pain and swelling and even cancer prevention. Turmeric contains curcumin, which helps fight inflammatory skin conditions, like stretch marks, wrinkles, acne, blemishes and dark spots. Turmeric has even been proven to act as anti-aging agent as well. With so many benefits, it’s a no brainer you should explore turmeric’s benefits by adding it to your skincare regimen. You can mix turmeric powder with honey and lemon juice to make a mask. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off.
Honey – Honey is full of antioxidants and also has antibacterial properties, making it a good ingredient to add to your skincare routine. Its antibacterial properties can help cleanse your skin on a deeper level that will get rid of bacteria, which can clog your pores. Honey’s antioxidants can help keep your skin healthy and protected. Use honey in your favorite DIY mask to help brighten and tighten your skin.
