Loving the warm weather but loathing the sweating? Summer sunshine unfortunately comes along with humidity leaving you with messy-makeup and a shiny appearance. This probably putting a damper on your beauty routine, but don’t sweat it! While there is no way of controlling the weather, there are many simple remedies you can do to lessen your sweaty appearance.
Check out some of these skin care tips to keep your “cool” appearance this summer:
Update Your Skin Routine: When you put those winter sweaters and boots in the back of your closet, do the same with creams and lotions! Put those heavier creams and lotions towards the back of your vanity drawer, and bring forward the lighter, oil-free formulas to help prevent clogging the pores and to keep your skin looking matte.
Exfoliate: Make sure to exfoliate your face frequently to get rid of dead skin cells and to remove the sweat and oils produced throughout the hot, summer day.
Keep Your Makeup Looking “Cool” & Fresh:
Go light–more is less! The heftier the moisturizer, the more you are going to perspire. Switch to serums, foams, or gels due to their lightweight in texture. This same rule applies with foundation–the more you apply onto your face, the more you are going to sweat. That being said, ALWAYS put on primer before applying your foundation as it will hold it in place. You can also replace foundation with a tinted moisturizer. Once you are finished glamorizing your face, set your makeup with a mineral powder to absorb oil and to keep your makeup in place and looking smooth.
Blot Your Oil Away:
Control your shine with on-the-go blotting papers to lift away that excess oil. Blotting papers are hygienic, grease eliminators. This is a quick and convenient way to prevent that breakout of acne and pimples. Remember to blot, NOT rub!
Watch What You Eat: Drinking water is an absolute MUST to keep your skin looking young and flawless in the summer. Also, lessen your intake of spicy foods and caffeine, for they activate neurotransmitters that can affect the glands that cause excess sweating. Try eating foods that are rich in vitamin A ( kale, cantaloupe, carrots, etc.) and high in calcium because it will give your body the power it needs to maintain temperature, reduce sweating, and slow down oil production.
It is important to keep your skin fresh and flawless–not sweaty and shiny. Follow these summer skincare tips to look young, healthy, and “fresh” this summer! And don’t forget to book an appointment with DC Derm Docs today.
