Dermal Filler Appointments in Washington, DC: What Should You Know Before Your First Facial Filler Treatment?

You’ve booked your first filler visit for your lips, your temples and your cheeks. Now what? Before dermal filler appointments in Washington, DC, many first-time patients wonder whether to ask for specific areas or leave the plan to the doctor. Our dermal fillers page lists the products we carry.

Here’s what you can expect at your first visit with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Anju Pabby at our office on L Street NW.

Should I Ask for Specific Areas at My Dermal Filler Appointments in Washington, DC?

Yes, and Dr. Pabby will also look at your whole face. At the start of your consultation, you’ll have a chance to point out your lips, temples and cheeks in a mirror. Then, she’ll look at you from the front and in profile, both at rest and while you smile. Based on what she sees, she may suggest beginning with one or two of those areas and saving the third for a later visit.

Will Cheek Filler Actually Lift My Face?

It can add a subtle lift. In fact, Dr. Pabby will place a small amount of filler along your cheekbones and hand you the mirror after each side, so you can see the change. For your temples, she’ll typically place the filler in tiny amounts. Afterward, she’ll give you an ice pack, and you can usually head back to work the same day. Your lips usually come last, and our lip filler page shows what that part of the visit feels like.

How Will Dr. Pabby Choose Which Filler and How Much?

By matching each product to each area. For instance, she may choose Juvéderm Volbella XC for your lips and a firmer gel such as Restylane Lyft for your cheeks. Before she starts, she’ll tell you about how many syringes she plans to use. If she thinks a gradual approach suits you better, she may bring up Sculptra, which builds volume over several months.

What Should I Mention Before My Filler Appointment?

It’s OK to estimate dates! Before your dermal filler appointments in Washington, DC, be sure to let Dr. Pabby know about any medications or supplements you take, especially blood thinners or fish oil. Also, mention any recent illness, upcoming dental work, or a vaccine you’ve scheduled. If you’re prone to cold sores and lip filler is on your list, mention that as well. To be on the safe side, she may suggest moving your filler visit a week or two in either direction.

How Much Swelling and Bruising Should I Expect After Filler?

Typically, your lips will swell the most for the first day or two. Your cheeks and temples may feel tender, and you may see a small bruise that fades within a week or so. Our post on how much bruising to expect with dermal fillers covers this in more detail.

You’ll see most of the change right away, and your final result settles over the next two weeks. In the event something doesn’t look or feel right, such as sudden pain or a change in skin color, call us right away. Rest assured, Dr. Pabby would much rather hear from you early.

Who Will Plan My Dermal Filler Appointments in Washington, DC?

Dr. Pabby completed her cosmetic fellowship through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and dermal filling techniques are among her areas of expertise. She’s also a diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. To compare areas before your visit, read our post on lips, cheeks, jawline and under-eye filler in Northwest Washington, DC.
