You spent almost every weekend this summer at Dewey Beach, and now you’re noticing brown spots, rough patches and a few fine lines that weren’t there last year. You’d like to know which strength of chemical peels in Washington, DC makes sense for skin your age. Our chemical peel page describes the types we offer.
So, what happens when you meet with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Anju Pabby at our dermatology office on L Street NW? Our building has daily and hourly parking, and the Farragut North Metro stop is close by, so you can come straight from work.
What Happens at My Consultation for Chemical Peels in Washington, DC?
At the start of your consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to show Dr. Pabby every spot that bothers you, from the freckles across your nose to the rough patches on your cheeks. Then, she’ll ask about your summers at the beach and pool and how easily you tan or burn. Next, she’ll look at your skin tone in good light before she chooses a peel strength.
In the event brown spots bother you most, Dr. Pabby may also add IPL to your plan.
How Many Peels Will I Need, and How Much Will I Peel?
On the day of your peel, Dr. Pabby will cleanse your skin and brush on the solution, and you’ll feel a slight sting for a few minutes. Then, she’ll neutralize it, and you’ll head home a little pink. That evening, your skin may feel tight, and you’ll notice light flaking on day two or three. Keep in mind that medium peels can be repeated every six to 12 months, and the peeling lasts closer to a week. To be on the safe side, plan your peels around any photos or events.
In the meantime, you can also book our SilkPeel treatment between peels.
Should I Stop My Retinol Before a Chemical Peel?
Yes. In fact, Dr. Pabby will typically ask you to stop retinoids two days before your peel. Be sure to bring your products to your consultation, so the two of you can look at the labels together. After your peel, she’ll subsequently suggest a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturizer and sunscreen each morning.
When Is the Best Time of Year to Start Chemical Peels?
Fall and winter, as a rule, since you’ll spend less time in the sun. If you’re reading this in the fall, it’s a great time to start chemical peels in Washington, DC. Rest assured, your results will hold up best if you reapply sunscreen at Dewey Beach next summer.
