Non-Surgical Cosmetic Dermatology in Washington, DC: What Are the Best Non-Surgical Treatments for Aging Skin?

In your early 50s, you’ve noticed crow’s feet that linger after you smile, brows that sit a little lower, deeper folds around your mouth and a softer chin and jawline. You’d like to look refreshed without a facelift or eyelid surgery. Non-surgical cosmetic dermatology in Washington, DC can address each of those changes, and our liquid facelift page shows how the treatments fit together.

Below, you’ll learn what your first visit will look like with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Marilyn Berzin, who has been a partner in our practice since 1984. You’ll find daily and hourly parking in our building on L Street NW.

Can Non-Surgical Treatments Give Me Results Like a Facelift?

They can give you a refreshed look, though not the same degree of lift. During your consultation, Dr. Berzin will be upfront about what each treatment can do for you. Many of our patients in their 50s find that a combination of treatments gets them close to what they had in mind. Be sure to bring a photo from a few years ago, if you have one.

What Happens at My Consultation for Non-Surgical Cosmetic Dermatology in Washington, DC?

At the start of your appointment, you and Dr. Berzin will look at your face in a mirror, both at rest and while you smile. Don’t be shy to point out each change, from your crow’s feet to your jawline. It’s OK to mention the ones your friends haven’t noticed yet! Then, she’ll gently lift your brows and cheeks with her fingertips so you can see what a little support might look like.

Which Non-Surgical Treatments Help My Crow’s Feet and Sagging Brows?

For crow’s feet, she’ll typically suggest Botox for crow’s feet, with a few quick pinches beside each eye. You’ll start to see your crow’s feet soften within a week. In the event your brows have dropped slightly, a few carefully placed units can lift them a little. If your upper eyelids feel heavy, she may also bring up Thermage, which can be used around the eyes.

Will a Non-Surgical Plan Fill My Nasolabial Folds or Support My Cheeks?

Often both. Before she treats the folds, Dr. Berzin will usually place a small amount of filler along your cheeks and hand you the mirror. Next, she can add a little filler to the folds themselves if they still bother you. For your chin and jawline, she may suggest chin filler or Sculptra, which builds volume gradually over several months.

You may feel some pressure and light pinching, and you can usually go back to your routine that afternoon. Keep in mind that you may see a small bruise for a few days.

How Long Will My Non-Surgical Results Last?

Typically, Botox lasts up to four to five months, and most hyaluronic acid fillers last six to 12 months. Sculptra and Thermage results build over a few months and tend to last longer. Based on your plan for non-surgical cosmetic dermatology in Washington, DC, Dr. Berzin will suggest a maintenance schedule that fits your calendar.

When Is Non-Surgical Treatment Not Enough?

If your skin is very loose along your jaw and neck, Dr. Berzin will tell you honestly that a facelift may give you more. To see how other patients have weighed their options, read our posts on facelift options in Washington, DC and non-surgical facelifts for women over 40.

Dr. Berzin is a consultant and instructor for Thermage and Sculptra, and she’s one of the two physicians our liquid facelift page names, along with Dr. Anju Pabby. Together, they’ll build your plan for non-surgical cosmetic dermatology in Washington, DC around the look you want.
