Remember the term “beauty sleep”? These days that phrase seems to go in one ear and out the other as we all lead such busy lives that it seems nearly impossible to get more than 6 hours of sleep a night. Whether you live in a place like New York City that has been coined “the city that never sleeps” or in the middle-of-nowhere Georgia, your to-do list seems to be endless, which often leads to sleep taking last place on that list. Although you’ve heard the phrase “beauty sleep”, is there any truth to it? Well, the answer is yes and here is why.

Sufficient Sleep Improves Skin Conditions

A lack of sleep is often the cause for acne breakouts, increased skin sensitivity, you name it. Sleep is the time when your skin rejuvenates itself, balancing moisture and pH levels. Without this balance your face is more prone to redness and those pesky pimples everyone wants to avoid.

Sleep Reduces Dark Circles

Hallelujah! We have found the solution to those dreaded dark circles and who knew it would be as simple as getting a little more shut eye every night? Too little rest leads to dilation of your blood vessels, which in turn results in dark circles. It’s as simple as that.

Sleep = Stress No More

Stress can wreak havoc on a person’s skin, whether it’s in the form of acne or flaky skin, and I’m sure this is not news to many. Lack of sleep makes you tired and irritable which just increases the likelihood of already-present stress. Studies suggest exercising between the hours of 5 and 7 PM both reduce stress and are likely to result in a better, and earlier, night of sleep.

Sleep Stops Aging In Its Tracks

Dealing with premature wrinkles is the last thing you need on your plate right now. Getting plenty of sleep will result in sufficient collagen production which prevents sagging and wrinkles from forming. Leave fine lines behind by hitting the hay a little earlier tonight.

Get your glow back and do it for free! Sleep isn’t a product you have to buy or a cream you have to apply, just start by crawling in bed 15 minutes earlier than usual tonight, then 30 minutes earlier tomorrow, and so on. Before you know it you’ll wake up feeling rejuvenated and the proof will be in your healthy, glowing and hydrated skin!
