With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the myth that chocolate leads to pimples is just that – a myth.  There is no medical evidence that simply eating chocolate causes acne.  But before you make your way through that giant heart-shaped box of candy, be aware that a daily high-sugar/high-fat diet can promote inflammatory responses in the body, which can ultimately result in acne.

The good news?  According, to Dr. Dale Isaacson, “Chocolate won’t make you break out.  In fact, small amounts of dark chocolate have noted health benefits such as lowering blood pressure, decreasing the risk of heart disease and stroke, and satisfying cravings for sweets that can ultimately help you lose weight.”

Dr. Marilyn Berzin adds, “To maintain clear, glowing skin, eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, avoid sun exposer and drink plenty of water every day.  If you follow these guidelines, a little chocolate in your diet won’t do you any harm.”

Show your skin some love this February. Have a very happy – and sweet – Valentine’s Day!
