The Cutera Excel V is a handheld laser “pen” that administers a unique high power green laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The laser heats these vessels causing the vein walls to collapse and seal shut. Over time, these blood vessels may no longer be visible. *Individual results may vary.

How is the procedure performed?

Depending on the condition, the physician passes the Excel V handpiece over the affected areas of the skin until the abnormal vessels diminish. To minimize discomfort and protect the patient’s skin, the Excel V uses a proprietary cooling mechanism.

The pen is equipped with three treatment modes tailored to custom treat each patient’s vessels. These modes include:

The High Energy, Short Pulse mode — quickly zaps superficial vascular target areas including small telangiectasias, cherry angiomas, diffuse redness and port wine stains.
The Long Pulse mode — treats deeper vascular targets like leg veins, port wine stains, and an array of other deep vascular target areas.

    Frequently Asked Questions:

    Do the treatments hurt?

Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Although no local anesthesia or pain medication is required, many patients opt to use a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Following the treatment, there is minimal to no pain. *Individual results may vary

How many treatments will I need?

Often, patients find that one or two treatments are sufficient. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color, and size of the vessels being treated.

    When will I see results?

Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months. *Individual results may vary.
