You always slather on a nice layer of sunscreen for the beach, but have you thought about adding some SPF 30 before your trip to the nail salon? A recent Georgia Regents University study reveals salon nail-drying lamps carry a slight risk of premature aging and an even smaller risk of Melanoma skin cancer due to UV-A exposure.  Don’t fret–even numerous exposures to nail drying lamps will barely have a significant impact on the skin.

“This study shows the effects of UV-A exposure in nail-drying lamps, but we have to look at UV-A and UV-B exposure on a macro scale,” said Dr. Dale Isaacson. “Think about how often we’re outside running errands and enjoying the summer. It never hurts to apply a light sunscreen before stepping outside for the day. Preventing skincare issues through protection is priceless.” Next time you head out for a fresh set of nails, put on a little sunscreen–it never hurts!
